Rental Agencies
The following list of rental accommodation agencies may be
useful if you're planning to attend an interview for a dental post in the
UK. Such interviews are at the applicants own expense. The
dental staff at the surgery you're planning to visit should be able to
recommend a place to stay.
Hotels are the most expensive choice and vary greatly in price and
quality. Bed and breakfast accommodation is usually the best value
throughout the UK. Look for signs with B&B or guest house. These are
generally advertised on the web and in telephone directories, and are
commonly available.

For longer term accommodation
Occasionally, accommodation may be provided with a dental post.
This is usually in rural areas where it is more difficult to recruit
dentists and specialist staff, and is a 'sweetener' in the job package.
Once you have secured your new job you will need to find temporary
accommodation. There are various options for renting in the short
term until you find out more about the location and decide where you would
like to live permanently.
Suggestions in order of cheapest and shortest
term contract first:
Rooms, and bedsits are advertised in local newspapers. Buy
a newspaper when you attend the interview. This is fully
furnished accommodation. You will be charged a weekly rent and have access
to a kitchen and perhaps communal bathroom if your room does not have an
en-suite.
A house or flat share is similar to the above. You would
be renting a bedroom in the house but have full use of all other
facilities. You would be expected to share the utility bills. This
may be fully or partially furnished. Check the period of notice that
you are required to give before leaving.
Self-catering rentals can be rented for periods of anything from
2 days to several months. These are generally good quality, fully
furnished and equipped (sometimes linen and towels are not included)
properties for holidaymakers but offer a flexible length of stay.
The rental price is usually fully inclusive of all bills and taxes, but do
please ask first. This type of accommodation is probably best for the
winter months when prices are at their lowest. You should also be
able to negotiate a discount if staying for more than 1 month. You will
find these throughout the UK. Check transport links if they're out of
town.

Private short term lets are available on a fixed term 6 month contract
which may be renewed. These can be unfurnished, partially furnished (no
beds) or fully furnished.
You will find lists of these in all local newspapers, in estate
agencies or property shops, also on the web.
1-3 months's deposit in advance is payable. You would be
responsible for your own community tax and all utility bills. Flats
may incur a management charge for the cleaning and maintenance of communal
areas.
If you require a map to help you find the dental practice you will be
visiting or possible accommodation, the you may find the Multimap
site useful.
